Something Borrowed Exchange
The Free Wedding Item Exchange
Welcome to Something Borrowed – the hub for connecting recently married people with almost married people for everything from exchanging items to exchanging ideas and advice with people going through a similar life event (for free!).
How It Works
Community Forums
Get advice and give recommendations (e.g., Should I hire a DJ or use a playlist?)
Item Exchange
Ask your community for what you need, and gift items to the next person when you’re done with them (for free!)
Vendor Directory (Coming Soon!)
Find a vendor who is trusted by your community and aligned with your values
What do we mean by ‘free’?
This is a free exchange. There is no selling, trading, or bartering. Instead, members can ask, offer, or borrow. We’re committed to changing the wedding industry and making sharing the norm. Circular economies support sustainability efforts, local communities, and your bottom line.
Locations
Physical item exchanges are tied to specific geographic areas, but anyone can join and utlize our free community forums. We currently have item exchanges in the following metro areas:
- Portland, OR
- Seattle, WA

Community Guidelines
- Nothing can be purchased, sold, or traded. Instead offer, ask, or borrow.
- Be honest (about the condition of your goods, who you are, etc.).
- Only offer items that are legal. If an item is age restricted (e.g., alcohol), please do not offer it.
- Be gender & sexuality inclusive (don’t assume people are marrying someone of a different gender; don’t assume only brides are in this community; don’t assume people’s sexuality, use the pronouns people list in their profile).
- You can join more than one exchange location if you’d like, if you’re willing to drive further, but you must post any offers in the location closest to where you want your items to be picked up
- Self-promotion and advertising is not allowed. Please use this for your individual needs, not your business needs.
- Harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated.
- If a moderator suspects you have acted outside of the community guidelines, you will either receive a warning or be removed depending on severity.
FAQs
There isn’t currently a Something Borrowed Community where I live. When will you be expanding to my city?
We would love to expand Something Borrowed to more locations. Please fill out the interest form below and let us know where we should go next!
I’m a wedding vendor/professional - is it okay for me to join?
Yes, absolutely! Our ask of wedding professionals is that you don’t ask for items that you later intend to sell or rent. If you are getting an item that you can use in your business or use for a client’s wedding, that’s allowed, but we hope you will consider offering up items any time you’re done using them or have an excess of items left over after a wedding. Additionally, please make sure to make a “Vendor” account when signing up.
I have items to give that might be useful for a wedding, but I’m not married/recently married - is it okay for me to join?
Yes, absolutely! Anyone with items to gift that might be useful for a wedding is welcome to join. This can mean a wide range of items, but some examples might include: decor, DIY/crafting materials, bar or catering related items, floral supplies, etc.
I’m having trouble joining. Who can I contact for help?
Send us an email at sbweddingexchange@gmail.com! Use the subject line “Something Borrowed Help” in your email.
I thought Something Borrowed Exchange was a community on Slack?
It was! We recently launched our own purpose built web-app that is replacing the Slack community.
