How It Works

Join an Exchange near you.

Find the Exchange community you live closest to. You can join more than one geographic location, but we just ask that any items you're offering are posted closest to where they'll be picked up. If you don't live near an available Exchange, you can still utilize our wedding-focused community forums.

Ask for items you need.

Create a post listing the items you need for your wedding (e.g., "50 Hurricane Vases", "12 Table Numbers", etc.). We recommend creating one post per item type, and encourage you to include a picture of what you're imagining for inspiration.

Tip: If you can, plan ahead and ask early! Items are gifted throughout the entire year, but the highest volume is at the end of wedding season, in the fall.

Post items you're done with.

After you're married, post items you're done with to pass them onto the next person. They'll get picked up right from your door (or wherever you'd like to meet) and you'll know they're staying out of the landfill, and supporting someone in your community.

Get Advice in the Community

Regardless of where you live, you can join our wedding-focused community forums. This is a great place to ask for advice, get inspired by others, and get recommendations for what to do for your wedding.

Community Guidelines

  • Nothing can be purchased, sold, or traded. Instead offer, ask, or borrow.
  • Be honest (about the condition of your goods, who you are, etc.).
  • Only offer items that are legal. If an item is age restricted (e.g., alcohol), please do not offer it.
  • Be gender & sexuality inclusive (don’t assume people are marrying someone of a different gender; don’t assume only brides are in this community; don’t assume people’s sexuality, use the pronouns people list in their profile).
  • You can join more than one exchange location if you’d like, if you’re willing to drive further, but you must post any offers in the location closest to where you want your items to be picked up
  • Self-promotion and advertising is not allowed. Please use this for your individual needs, not your business needs.
  • Harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated.
  • If a moderator suspects you have acted outside of the community guidelines, you will either receive a warning or be removed depending on severity.

FAQs

There isn’t currently an Exchange community where I live. When will you be expanding to my city?

We would love to expand Something Borrowed to more locations. Please send us an email at info@somethingborrowedexchange.com and let us know where we should go next!

I’m a wedding vendor/professional – is it okay for me to join?

Yes, absolutely! Please make sure to make a “Vendor” account when signing up. Additionally, we ask that wedding professionals don’t ask for items that you later intend to sell or rent. If you’re getting an item you can use in your business or for a client’s wedding, that’s allowed, but we hope you will consider offering up any items you’re done with or have excess items leftover after a wedding.

I have items to give that might be useful for a wedding, but I’m not married/recently married. Is it okay for me to join?

Definitely! Anyone with items to gift that might be useful for a wedding is welcome to join. This can mean a wide range of items, but some examples might include: decor, DIY/crafting materials, bar or catering related items, floral supplies, etc.
